Single parents: How do you spend your free time at night?

I am a single parent of three girls, ages 13, 8, & 4. I work all day then tend to extra-carricular activities or homework-helping, etc until bedtime it seems. My problem is this…I crave free time/unwinding time on a daily basis (who doesn’t??) and then I end up staying up too late every night on my computer, usually playing online card games like spades or hearts (I don’t gamble!!) or just surfing the net (I tend to ‘nerd-out’ on wikipedia researching random topics as well). I stay at it for what seems like 1 or 2 hrs and it’s more like 3 or 4, taking me to 1:30-2:00 a.m. I honestly don’t feel tired until the very end; do I have insomnia? Am I addicted to the internet/ card games? As you can imagine, I value quiet time around my house, as it is rare. Maybe I’m addicted to that? Anybody else out there find themselves acting similarly?

I think you really should spend time with the kids at night in lieu of going on the internet. There is usually a calendar up at your local church offering activities for parents and children.
Otherwise, you can get your children in a circle and read them a good book. They will be smarter for it and its the best bonding method I can think of. Good luck. I wish you the very best life can offer you. Enjoy your children now because they will be grown up before you know it. Trust me.
