What is a good Power Supply and Graphic Card for upgrading?

Lately I been looking into buying a graphics card, but then realized I have to upgrade my power supply first. My PC is a Desktop Gateway DX4200-9. It came with a pre-installed 300W unit.

My question is.. Power Supply first.. How do I know what kind of unit I would need to get if I play games such as WoW everyday, maybe 8hours+ more a day, maybe more on the weekend.. I’ve been looking at the XFX 650W Black Edition, but unsure about it.

My other question is.. The card.. Now I’ve been looking at 2 maybe 3 cards so far. 1st choice on my list is the XFX Radeon HD 4870 1gb. My other two choices are the EVGA 9800GT 1gb or the GTS250 1gb.

I’m a daily World of Warcraft player and I just want to play at high settings or even better at Ultra settings. But I also don’t want to fry anything with to much power..

If anyone can help me go in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

it is not possible to ‘fry anything with too much power’ the components in your pc take what they need from the psu, no more. the only possibility is under powering your system., therefore the 650w is fine.

As for the gpu, I have always been a fan of ATI and at the moment they are the leaders, but that is only for their top cards, the 4870 was the best of its time (about 18 months ago) and is still above average. It will play WOW on ultra for most things, as long as your processor can keep up.
The 4870 is better than the 9800 and about par with the gts250. So it is down to preference which you go for really but personally I would pick the ATI. but as mentioned above i have the 5770 and it is a vast improvement for little more expense, also it is more up to date.
