Is this worth fixing?

I have an acer travelmate 2000 its pretty old but is able to ( Barley) keep up with the average uses. I find it to really only book for basic things like google and facebook and what not. Problem: the fan is rather loud and sometimes it gets even louder when you try anything as far as games. Will not play youtube, sound comes in but if your lucky will show a new grainy picture every 5 seconds or so, so im guessing the graphics card is bad? And this thing is straight up slow. I dont have the money to buy a new computer and want to know if its even worth it to update it ( if i can ) and if i do beef it up will it be any better? I would hate to throw out something salvagable you know?

The integrated graphics on that laptop are vastly underpowered by today’s standards, and simply aren’t up to YouTube video. They cannot be upgraded.

However, you can get some additional performance out of that computer by updating it to 1 (or 2) GB of RAM. That will keep XP from swapping memory to disk at a horrible performance penalty. You’ll be able to do web browsing, but even with the memory upgrade, video playback will be rough (better than 1 frame / 5 seconds, but not as smooth as a new laptop)
