Were these battle cards from Nintendo Magazine ever meant to be played as a game?

Top row and bottom row are two different sets

While they’re certainly collectibles, they certainly look like they can be played as some kind of card game. Problem is I don’t know where to find the rules. The box covers say Nintendo Magazine, as opposed to Nintendo Power magazine, so it looks like these cards may have been given out as part of subscriptions to the UK or Europe equivalent of Nintendo Power that they have there.

Anyone know if these are meant to be played as a card game, and if so, where can I find the rules? Thanks!

They were given away with the official nintendo magazine in the late 90′s in the uk and parts of europe. There is a game you can play with them, over we have a card game called top trumps, you can get allsorts from race cars to jet planes and tons more. Basically you deal out all the cards to how ever many players are taking part. The 1st player reads out one of the stats on their 1st card (height speed power etc.) and if it is higher then the other players they take the cards they have, but if someone has a higher stat then they take the cards.
You can take turns or 1 player can read out stats untill they lose a card.The winner is the one who gets all the cards.
