Is yugioh card collection, games and tournaments good for kids?

My son likes to go to the tournament everyweek(might be called a hobby league). It always has a registration fee of $5.00 to get in. With that, he gets a pack of cards and a chance to win about 2 more pack of cards by defeating other players there. He spends 1.5-4 hrs. there, depending if he wins or loses easily. The next week is a start of a new tournaent again. Is my child wasting time on this? What does he get out of this game?
My son is doing very well in school.

Your child isnt wasting time, your child for the most part will get to meet nice people who share similar interests, if ,like me, your kid doesnt use a calculator he’ll get good at adding and subtracting. He’s lucky, when i played there wasnt any hobby leagues nearby. It also gives him something to do and if hes antisocial it basically forces him to interact with new people.
