What is the high-pitched noise coming from my graphics card?
Hi, I’ve had a Sapphire 4870 for about three weeks now and this morning I upgraded from 2 x 1gb to 2 x 2gb of RAM and also changed my power supply. Since then, whenever I try to play a game (eg. GRID, CoD4) the card emits a high-pitched/high frequency noise and after about 30 seconds to a minute my whole computer will suddenly shut off. However, the card is fine when dealing with 2D (ie. the dektop) – it’s just the 3D rendering that seems to cause this fault!
I’ve tried reinstalling the drivers and even put my old graphics card back in to check it wasn’t a fault with some other part of my PC. I’m at a total loss now and will probably return it if I can’t find a solution.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

650w PSU
4gb DDR2 800mhz Corsair RAM
500gb Seagate Hard Drive
AMD X2 64 4600+ (stock clock)
That high pitched noise is the card telling you it’s not recieving enough power. The addition of the extra GB of ram probably pushed you over the limit. you can try underclocking your car/ram/cpu to save some voltage but you’d be better off purchasing a 700w or higher power supply
