Anyone know how I can make my own online trading card game?

I want to make a functioning online tcg, not make my own cards to print out. Like Magic Online, except with my own original game and rules. Any advice at all would help; what programs to use, what books to buy, anything! Thanks!

You need to actually create the game before you put it online. Creating a TCG is a serious venture. It will require alot time, dedication, and resources.

While your game will be online when you’re done you must first create paper cards. Why? To work out any rulings problems and to get a good idea of what typical gameplay is. Translating a game onto an online platform can be more difficult than you’d think. MTGO is the product of a whole team of software developers and game designers(the guys who actually create the cards) and it took an enormous effort.

Ask yourself these questions:
1. How much time am I willing to devote to this game?
2. How much money am I willing to devote to this game?
3. Am I willing to bring in help(most likely at a fee) to code parts of the game?
4. How will the game be advertised? TV? Internet? Word of mouth?
5. Will the game be fee-based or free?(this is VERY important!)
6. Will the game be web-based or be a seperate program?(also very important!)
7. Are there any similar products out there? What can I learn from them?
