Card Games Gin Rummy Rules
What are the rules to Gin Rummy?
I used to remember how to play this card game, but it has been like 5 or so years and now I can’t remember. I was hoping someone could tell me so I can teach my kids how to play. Thanks!
Dealer deals 7, 9, or 11 cards to everyone, turns one over.
dealer’s choice.
Person to left picks up overturned card, or picks from the pile and discards. Anyone picking up anyone of the cards from the pile must play that card, unless it is the top card. Pick up from below the top card and you must show how you use it—now.
Need three in a row (same suit) or three of a kind to lay down. Example, 5*6*7 or J*Q*K*, or 5*5^5#. Got it?
MUST ALWAYS HAVE A DISCARD—big issue at the end of the game.
Deal passes to the left, play goes clockwise.
2-9=5pts, 10-K+10 pts, A=15pts, can be used low—A23 or high, QKA, or in a trio, AAA.
What you get caught with counts against you in scoring.
If someone discards a card that can be used against a person’s “played” cards it is a Rummy—one guy has three 9s laid down, and someone discards a 9. That’s a “rummy” and you can call rummy and pick the card up and play it without losing your turn.
Strategy—plant a card you can use in a straight, or in 3 of a kind, in the pile, and collect a bunch of cards early.
Have fun, Brian
