I use to play a card game that we called double solitaire….?

Apparently, there are different variations?? Now, I am wanting to teach my kids, but I can’t remember how we played. This is what I do remember about the game…. There were 4 cards placed between the two players, both players played on these. The remaining cards were dealt face down in front of the 2 players. You flip and try to play 1 card at a time. Your turn ends when your card doesn’t play. The flipped card pile is your discard pile. Players can also play onto each others discard piles. Can’t recall if cards can go up & down…..opposite colors only for play…??? Can anyone help me out?

It has been many years since I played this game as a child, but your recollection is pretty much the same as mine. We played with a double deck of 104 cards and each player started with a pile of 50 cards (with 4 layout cards). Flip over cards one at a time and stop when you have no play. You can play to the layout, to your opponent’s discard pile or to one of eight foundation piles (two for each suit). You can move cards around the layout or from the layout to the foundation piles. Cards must alternate black and red on the layout (going from K down to A). You can only play red on black or black on red if you want to play to your opponent’s discard pile. Foundation piles are built just like in regular solitaire from A up to K in a single suit. We played that you could use any card to fill an empty space in the layout (rather than just a K).
