Casinos Boost Cambodias Tourism

While the majority of Cambodia’s Casinos have been positioned on the border areas of both Thailand and Vietnam to cater for residents of those countries, there has been refurbishment and development of new facilities in the tourist areas of Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

The premier casino in Phnom Penh, the Naga World Casino and Hotel has come ashore from its previous location as a floating venue on Bassau River. The Naga World is now a 508 room 5 stars Hotel with the Casino containing 176 gaming tables and 211 gaming machines. Table games on offer are Blackjack, Caribbean Stud, Pai- Gow tiles, Roulette and Tai-Sai.

Within a 30 minute drive of the Phnom Penh International Airport the Casino is well placed to service gamblers from the traditional markets of China, Malaysia and Singapore.

A recent addition to the Phnom Penh landscape is the state of the art Golden Tower Slot Club in Nehru Boulevard. Besides gaming machines the club offers Roulette, Baccarat and sports betting. Other electronic gaming machines clubs recently opened include the Tin Tin Slot Club, Comfort Slot Club, Macau Club, Koreana Club, Pacific Club and Elysees Club.

To the south of the Capital city, the coastal resort town of Sihanoukville has a growing casino industry with new development projects underway and the refurbishment of existing casino facilities. A new casino, the Kampong Som City Casino and Hotel in the Golden Lions roundabout area is due to open shortly, and it has been reported that it will be the biggest casino in Sihanoukville.Other casinos in this area around Serendipity and Ocheteaul beaches are the recently renovated 110 room, 5 storied Fortune Casino, and the Golden Sands Beach Club. At the other end of town on Victory Beach, the Holiday Palace Resort and Casino offers 40 gaming machines and Blackjack, Roulette, Poker and Baccarat tables as well as live sports betting. On the top of Victory Hill, the New Peak Hotel and Casino besides the gambling facilities, offers great views over the town and out into the Gulf of Thailand. The casinos of Sihanoukville are a rewarding supplement to the area’s main tourist attractions of beaches and off-shore islands.

Due to Thailand having no legal casinos Bangkok residents making the four hour trips to the border casinos at Poi pet, have ensured that this is one of the biggest gambling areas in Asia.

There are eight casinos in Poi pet with the largest being the Holiday Palace Resort and Casino. Another entry point into Cambodia from the eastern most point of Thailand is at Koh Kong. There in a peaceful beach setting on the border at Baan Had Lek is the Koh Kong International Resort.

150 kilometers South-East of Phnom Penh is Bavet, located on the Moc Bai border point into Vietnam. With Vietnam’s casinos only available to foreigners, residents of Ho Chi Minh City travel the 80 kilometers to relax and play the casinos of Bavet. There are seven casinos in the Bavet area. These include the Full House Hotel and Casino with 40 tables, 30 gaming machines and 40 electronic Baccarat tables, the Macau Casino and Hotel with 35 gaming machines and 25 tables, the 172 room New World Casino-Hotel offering 35 tables playing Baccarat, Roulette, Blackjack, 7 Card poker and Tai Sai. The other casinos in the area are the Las Vegas Sun Hotel and Casino, the Casino Bavet Mac Bai, the Kings Crown Casino and Hotel and the Sun City Casino and Hotel.
