Should the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card made into a movie?

When I first read Ender’s Game I was seriously impressed by how well human traits were expressed by Card and I was really exited when I heard it was being made into a movie. I now know the movie project was canceled and will probably never happen but could there really be a movie well enough scripted to measure up to such good literature or even a kid with the abilities to act out such a demanding role?

Let me start of by saying that when the Ender’s series is made into a movie, it will be horrible. Either there won’t be enough interest in it, so the studio execs won’t want to put much money into it, and we’ll end up with a box office flop. On the other side, they could make it into a big budget film, focusing on the aesthetics and making big, action-packed scenes that will totally overshadow (what I believe to be) the most important part of the book: the awesome and breathtaking interpretation of the human condition.

Refering to what you said about them cancelling the movie… I thought it was a go? I read a few months ago that Card finished the screenplay and Odd Lot had the rights to it and was assembling a production team. I know the issue has been flip-flopping around for quite a few years, but this is the first time it has been said that the final screen play was complete and a production company had the rights to it.

Either way, it will be a bittersweet moment when the film is made (if it is). I would love for the book to get recognition, but I’m scared of what they’ll do to one of my favorite books since childhood. As with most books made into movies, I’ll have to go into the theater thinking of the movie as something completely separate from the book and not compare them at all…
