New laptop or tablet?
Recently my laptop broke, I had gotten it a while after Windows Vista came out so I was due for a new one anyway. I’m trying to decide whether to get a new Windows 7 laptop or if a tablet would be a better decision. I need the basic functions of course especially a good word processor and a few simple card games (solitaire, free cell ect.). I need portablility I’d like a keyboard but I’ve heard of tablets with docks for that. I need something compatable with an HP all in one printer or that’s what I would prefer. Cost isn’t an issue but what would you all suggest? Laptop or tablet? Any specific brands or models?
As a side note, my girlfriend says it is required that it’s “cute” as well.
Tablets are good for consuming media : watching youtube videos, streaming media from the internet, viewing photos and listening to music. If you plan on writing a lot of stuff, editing or storing movies and documents, then a laptop is the way to go.
Tablets have a very small screen (about 10 inches), still lack processing power, are difficult to type on, have limited storage ( as in 64 GB maximum), rely exclusively on apps to give the user experience (some of which are expensive), have clunky multitasking and are fairly pricey.
I’d buy a tablet if I travelled a lot (including within the city), wanted to look cool, had no patience in waiting for some programs to load and wanted to have the internet at hand’s reach in any place of my house.
I have tried iPad’s and Galaxy tabs before, but apart from the increased mobility, I don’t see what tablets can be used for, or better still, be good at.
Another point would be that tablet technology is evolving so rapidly that you now see two- fold increase in speed from one year to another. You would be very angry to see that you bought an iPad in January this year, and in March, the new one comes out, twice as fast and at the same price.
My recommendation: buy a nice laptop, with the latest technology in it, and you’ll be very happy.
