Online multiplayer games (not just slashing things with swords though)?

I have a mac, and my friends have Windows. I’ve been looking for a good multiplayer game, preferably not ClubPenguin or Runescape. Hopefully it can be free, because I do not have any income to spend on monthly subscriptions, and neither do my friends. There was a game called vSide which worked really really good, but they decided to shut it down. I have also heard and checked out SecondLife, but honestly, too much stuff you have to pay for and you have to put in a credit card number, which I am really trying to avoid. Any suggestions? My friends and I all want to play together on one of these games, but they’re hard to find. Any suggestions?
*FREE GAMES THAT ARE NOT JUST SLASHING STUFF WITH SWORDS. I think “slashing stuff with swords” or whatever kind of includes WoW, plus I tried the free trial and didn’t really like it much.

ok sine good quality games like wow are good?…right?…so i f you don’t want to pay to play just google search wow private servers..all games have private servers…there Server that have everything free in them…world of war-craft is more exiting than rune scape

if you like shooting try combat arms…best quality FPS games(first person shooter)
